Introduction
Clophill is a village and civil parish located in the Flit river valley, Bedfordshire, England. It is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Clopelle; meaning tree-stump Hill in old English.
It is in the administrative district of Central Bedfordshire Council. It is bound on the south by the A507 and the A6 on the western edge. The village has couple of public houses, a shop and post office. Plus a couple of churches and a school.
The old St Mary’s Church on the hill is abandoned and has lots stories about it .
The village is hilly to the north and to the south is the River Flit with an abandoned Fullers earth pits. It sits on the Greensand Ridge.
In the 1851 census, there was a male population in Clophill of 560; of these, 238 were agricultural labourers. In the 2011 Census the population was 1,750.
