Need Help staying warm this coming autumn winter……
Better Housing Better Health – BHBH – a free service run by the National Energy Foundation which is a charity working to help residents living in or at risk of living in fuel poverty, to access free advice and support.
The service is free of charge and open to all residents experiencing issues with their home energy. As part of the service, there is a helpline that’s free to call where a team can give valuable tips on how to stay warm at home, provide free home energy visits, sign up those in need of additional support to the Priority Services Register and access grants for energy efficiency measures.

A1 Biggleswade to Sandy: an update
The A1 between around Sandy, between the Black Cat roundabout and Biggleswade North. This work includes safety barrier replacement, resurfacing, road marking and drainage renewal which will ensure the A1 remains in a safe and serviceable condition. It is expected expect to complete this scheme by Friday 21 July.
A number of unexpected challenges to delivering this work and Highways thank you for your patience while they continue to progress on this scheme. Please continue to bear with us in these closing stages as they have faced a number of interferences that have delayed our progress, and any continued disruptions could only delay our work further.
The work is being carried out between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather conditions permitting.
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close parts of the A1 between the Black Cat Roundabout and Biggleswade North roundabout, one direction at a time, and divert traffic as detailed below:
-
The closing the A1 northbound between Biggleswade North and Sandy until Friday 23 June, with the central lane (lane two) closed southbound
-
The closing the A1 southbound between Sandy and Biggleswade North from Monday 26 June until Friday 7 July, with lane two closed northbound
-
The closing the A1 northbound between Sandy and the Black Cat roundabout from Monday 10 July to Friday 21 July, with lane two closed southbound while we are working

A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement scheme
National Highways will be upgrading the route between the A1 Black Cat roundabout in Bedfordshire and Caxton Gibbet roundabout in Cambridgeshire with a new 10-mile dual carriageway and a number of junction improvements. Unfortunately, the start of construction was delayed due to a legal challenge, but this is now over. We are keen to get started as soon as possible, so you will see us continue preparatory works as we get ready for full construction. We plan to move into full construction by the end of the year and expect the road to open in 2027. Please visit www.nationalhighways.co.uk/a428 for more information on this.
